Super Sow-Lite seed drills

Super Sow-Lite seed drills

We designed and built our first ATV Seed Drill almost 40 years ago to use in our contract side of the business. It was the first purpose built ATV drill on the market, and is probably still the best. Originally made for sowing ancient meadow and wild flower mixes, it soon became recognised as the "go-to" tool for crop patching, grass seeding, over seeding, sowing game cover or just carrying out conventional sowing, appealing to small and large farmers. Whatever the job, the Super Sow-Lite is the perfect choice, supported by years of experience. Developed in 1986,  It can be used with ATVs, UTVs and Compact Tractors. We have machines in Europe, Ireland, throughout the UK and there is even a drill working on Crete for crop trials,  and now also 2 machines on the Scilly Isles.

Over a period of 40 years you learn a lot about your subject, and we have gained a wealth of valuable knowledge about the design and application of small seed drills.
We have found what works and what doesn't and have a checklist of important features that we include on all drills:
  • It must be light enough to work easily with an ATV, but tough and heavy enough to do the job.
  • It must be adaptable to suit particular requirements. "What works in the North doesn't necessarily work in the West". This is why we offer a range of coulter types and various metering options. Also different types of press wheel.
  • Coulters must be independently floating to allow them to follow ground contours. This means seed goes in the ground at an even depth and is not dribbled on the surface when there are dips in the ground.
  • Easy adjustment of working rows. Coulters not working can be raised out of work simply, to allow wider row spacing. Or raised altogether to allow broadcasting.
  • A choice of metering types. If only sowing smaller seed a simple metering mechanism is a cheaper and simpler choice. For a range of seed from mustard, flowers and grasses through to maize peas and beans the pegged roller system is a better choice.
  • We can even supply drills with the option of independent output from each metering unit. A perfect choice for Twin-Sowing, nurse crops or field trials.
  • Standard flotation tyres which allow working on sensitive or wet areas without making a mess or compacting the soil.
  • A choice of coulter types... for working into seedbeds or Over Seeding grassland (or both) and also a direct coulter for direct drilling into arable ground.
  • A way of altering the depth of front and rear coulters independently, allowing the sowing of different seed types at different depths.. e.g. maize with triticale.
  • A choice of disc options for over or direct seeding.
  • Possibility of hopper compartments.. useful for small seed or twin seeding, and wide row applications.
  • Easily replaceable wearing parts... direct from the manufacturer (Us).
  • Delivery and installation by the man who actually built your drill, and who knows how to use it.
  • A man on the other end of the phone who knows your machine (he built it) to help if you have questions.

Full control of seed rate

Our unique "Vari-Sow" or "Mini-Vari" variable driveboxes enable full control of the seed rate, and also have high and low ranges. Adjustable blanking plates also help control flow of small seed and can also be used to blank off individual units when not seeding.

Standard and ‘knife edge’ coulters
Standard 'Tine type' coulters are hard wearing and suitable for most soil types. They are capable of cutting into the ground easily. Alternatively, you can specify ‘knife edge’ coulters for over seeding. These are highly effective for all types of soil. Feel free to discuss your seeding requirements with us so that we can offer you a tailored solution.

Disc Options
There are disc options available for operators over seeding into ground that has a degree of surface growth. Two choices are available: a "Leading Disc" that sits on the coulter arm just ahead of the Knife Coulter or front mounted discs which are torsion mounted on a seperate unit at the front of the drill

Simple depth control
On trailed models the coulters are raised by an electric actuator which also stops the flow of seed, operated from a simple switch mounted on the towing vehicle.
On mounted models the sowing depth is set with a simple hand screw.
All models feature a clever adjustable parallel link that allows independent setting of sowing depth between front and rear coulters. This is particularly useful when twin sowing large and small seeds e.g. maize and sorghum.
